Mapril Day Six

Apparently March is pissed. Despite our best efforts to leap into the month of April and warm spring weather, March decided to remind us that she is one unpredictable month. While it wasn't much of a snow, Susan of 29 Black Street is getting some weather that's a little more aggressive, like....sideways snow (shiver). Still, we're not giving up.

Maple Candy 1

Maple candy. Hard crack candy is very easy to make if you have the right tools, a candy thermometer being the most important and candy molds being the second. I just happened to have a mold I was going to use for small soaps.

Maple Candy 2

Frankly they produce jaw-breaker sized candies but with the vast world of the internet you can certainly find some molds that produce more bite sized candies.

March is getting revenge on us with cold rain and wind. Youngest son and I bought maple/bacon/sweet potato sausage in honor of Mapril yesterday. Tasty.

WOOOHOOO on celebrating Mapril but what is it you bought again? Maple bacon I get but what the heck is sweet potato sausage?

The sweet potato in the sausage was the price we had to pay for the maple bacony goodness. When eaten you come across a hunk of sweet potato - is weird. I think they succumbed to some marketing survey.

My dad would have loved these!! Thanks for the smile and the good memories that all this maple goodness has brought.

Froggy. NO.

Dani, I so wanted to make little maple leaf candies. But shopping on Sundays in Kansas is not the easiest.

I like the scallop candy - sitting in a scallop serving dish (soap dish?). You're really going all out.

I fried up pound of bacon and blueberry waffles for breakfast yesterday - in your honor. Bwahahaha Although we only had store-bought, sugar-free syrup to put on it. The boys weren't complaing.

I almost did a pancakes post yesterday Buzz. But then I made them, ate some and immediately feel into a deep coma-like nap. The candy was safer than trying the pancakes again.

Same thing happened to us yesterday after late morning pancakes. It was dreary and overcast. Perfect nap weather
