Cashing in the Chips

The Top Chef producers have been very generous to our kick ass Season 6 chefs. To the tune of $110,000 cash (if you count a $10,000 Macy's gift card). Not to mention a Toyota Prius just for winning the last Quickfire. But what's really interesting is who won the money. There were 7 episodes with High Stakes prizes. Only one chef not in the group of top four chefs won $15,000. Jennifer, Michael V. and Kevin won a combined $95,000 in cash. That's not counting non-cash prizes (like knives, cookware and appliances all of which I think either Kevin and Michael won). Even more fascinating is the fact that one chef won 4 Elimination Challenges, no Quickfires and no cash and only one prize and that lonely reward was to stage with Joël Robuchon in Vegas. That excellent chef is Bryan Voltaggio.Just something to keep in mind as we watch next week's Finale.

Between Bryan and Kevin, oh man... That's a serious toss-up. I have to admit, I am nail-biting curious over this finale.

My hesitant prediction: Bryan takes the win, Kevin takes Fan Favorite and his suite of a bajillion other prizes. Everyone goes home happy. Except for Jen, whose duckiness quotient was not enough to save her from strategic dramamongering.

How does one go about getting on a Top Chef show?

Think about it Dani, there were 13 chefs that didn't get anything. Besides you don't have enough tattoos.

Noxy, you would think Kevin would have the advantage here since he's won 5 Elimination Challenges and had 4 Quickfire Wins but to tell you the truth, Hosea's mystifying win last season makes me doubt the whole process.

May I just say I laughed my butt off at the way the contestants all went so bananas at the possibility of winning a . . . Prius. What's to get excited about? Thing looks like a squirt of toothpaste.

Now that Jenn's gone, I'd like to see Kevin take it. But I think it's going to be Bryan.

When you're driving an old Cavalier (we called ours the Cadaver)I'm thinking a Prius would look pretty good. Plus I'm betting there's a contractual clause that says if you badmouth the product pimpage, you forfeit the prize.

By the way Noxy, excellent word, dramamongering. I stealing it, if you don't mind?

No, I didn't mean it like that. I meant how are the contestants chosen for the show? Are they well known in food circles, have great restaurants, or just everyday people wanting to follow a dream?

Yup--has had the feelin' all along that thang is fixed from the git go--or least from the middle of the git-go.

Who says Bravo wouldn't do fine wif jes' lettin' top chefs cook--weary of the dramamongerin' fer shure.

Dramamongering is for sure the word of the week. I just used it on my Border Collie.

Please feel free :) I'm pretty sure I got it from someone else myself.
