I never pass up a copy of Gourmet if they have them in my library bookstore. It's such a wonderful magazine. I might not get around to cooking any of it, but I love to drool over the recipes and the beautiful photography.

I've worked for magazines for years and if you love them, they become "your baby," whether you are the editor, the production team or the sales team. it's such a team effort and when the latest issue comes out, everyone gets excited, esp. about the covers....You can see all your hard work in it.

I can only imagine how it felt for the Gourmet staff...so many of them must be sad and wondering what will come next? Ruth is right, there will be no other magazine like it, it's too expensive now.

The pagination board is especially sad. It's where you lay out each page of the magazine and decide what looks best where...and it's all empty. :(

I wonder why they didn't just have one last holiday issue and close out the year? If I was an advertiser, I'd want to be in that one for sure, knowing how many would be sold.

I would imagine it was already in the red, no amount of Collector's Sentiment could save it.

Awwwww - condolences to the Gourmet fans. Sounds like the end of an era.

Oh gosh - I just clicked the link to the photo stream. The woman hugging the her boxes brought tears to my eyes, and I've never even opened a page of the magazine. You can tell these folks REALLY loved their work.
