Naughty Bobby!!

The Food Network has fired Chef Robert Irvine.

Frankly, we're neither surprised nor upset...

Perhaps “Sir” Irvine can take consolation in winning the Cat Cora Award for “most fame based on least actual culinary achievement” at Bourdain & Ruhlman’s irreverent 2008 Golden Clog awards . . . Or not.

In other coverage of the South Beach Wine & Food Festival, one of several videos linked below includes Alice Waters in a panel discussion with Jamie Oliver and Rachael Ray on the topic of childhood obesity. After reading McNamee’s biography of Alice Waters & Chez Panisse, I was delighted to know Ms. Waters is STILL trying to convince the next U.S. president (whoever that might be) to make her school garden/cooking program a #1 priority. And who wouldn’t have enjoyed witnessing Waters putting Ray in her place?

Just finished reading the St Petersburg Times articles that started the whole ball rolling: http://www.sptimes.com/2008/02/17/Southpinellas/TV_chef_spiced_up_his.shtml

He deserved what he got!

Eggy,

Are any of us the least bit concerned that Ms. Ray's hop onto the "stop childhood obesity" wagon is nothing more than another marketing ploy aimed at expanding her eponymous juggernaut? I'm just wondering what part Dunkin' Donuts will play in her plan...

Bourdain has some interesting (as usual) comments here
