Wow

I hope you didn't miss it last night, it was a doozy. Do you agree with the decision or was Kenny robbed? Discuss!

Oh noes! They killed Kenny!! (Courtesy of a blogger from Tennessee). We were shocked and didn't agree with it at all. Thought Amanda should have gone home.

Hmmmm, I don't know Froggy. Kenny made himself Exec. Chef, had two poor dishes, didn't exactly correct or oversee Amada's bad meat cooking (Kelly actually put more effort into that)and then punked out in the judging about Alex. Not exactly an impressive performance.

Kenny should have known that the survivability of the executive chef of the losing restaurant in Restaurant Wars is near zero. And for a second, I thought maybe Amanda or Kelly was going home. If Evoo had lost, Alex was gone for sure. But they didn't and everyone is safe on the winning team. I thought it was nice that the rest of the team backed Alex.

And it was poor sportmanship on Kenny and Kevin's part to slam Alex during judging when they knew he was safe. I think only blatant cheating would have changed the judges deceision and that just didn't happen.

I think it's going to be a 2 horse race now between Angelo and Tiffany now that Kennys gone.

Froggy - I liked the South Park reference.

Alex is indeed a slacker (and smarmy to boot—brrrrr) but I gather that because he was on the winning team, Top Chef rules exempted him from going home. For me, it was between Kenny and Amanda, but I'll have to agree with Shamu's reasons for sending Kenny packing.

On the bright side: Padma was better dressed this week.

They picked the right one to go home. I can't wait for pea brained Alex to go next. One thing I don't understand is when TC says “we judges absolutely never have access to behind-the-scenes conversations or goings-on". If I remember correctly, a few years back there was an older chef that "stole" a whole crate of some type of fruit and they seemed to find out about that.

I'm rooting for Kelly, but then I'm always for the women.

I thought it was hilarious that the 2121 team thought their nice calm, pleasant to the servers routine would somehow overcome poorly prepared food. Amanda has shown an amazing consistency to screwing up meat. I don't think Kelly should have been in the running for auffing since she did a decent front of house job and kicked out a decent dessert. Yes her soup preparation was not great but she seems to have put forth way more effort and energy into the battle than Kenny and Amanda did. I have to wait until I can review the tape but I thought I caught a whiff of a statement from Kenny that made my ears perk up last night. Let's just call it a signpost of his demise.

One Owl, I'm not sure that it's the judges don't have knowledge of what goes on in the kitchen I think it's more of a matter that they don't care. They certainly didn't care about the squabbling that went on during the Vegas season when Robin got yelled out quite a bit.

As for Otto and the lychees, I think Marisa narced on Otto and Otto took them back to the store and withdrew at Judges Table over the incident. I can't remember, did Tom make his Peek and Poke for this episode? I don't think he did but even if he did, Team 2121 was SO confident that they were going to win that there was no need for them to point out what they saw as cheating (Alex not really "doing" a dish) on Team EVOO. Frankly they look like whiny little bitches bringing up at Judges Table and in the Stew Room.

I kind of felt like Kenny got shafted (don't be nasty), but I don't know who else I'd have sent home.

Big Shamu said...

Syd, this from the Queen of Shafts? Kenny put himself in the hotseat. He wanted Exec. Chef. Big Rewards? Hell yes. Big Risk....well you saw it. It sucks yes because Amanda is not exactly the best chef but she didn't fail at multiple things last night...like Kenny did.

THAT was it, Otto and the lychees, thanks for the memory. I don't remember it all that well, so I don't know if Tom did his peek and poke. Love that phrase.

You're probably right that the judges just don't care, but shouldn't they if there's a direct violation of the rules? It sure looked like it to me. BUT it was lame of 2121 to bring it up. That should be the producers job.

Honestly, I thought it was going to be Amanda, but was not too surprised (or dissapointed, BTW) when it was Kenny. H and I were watching the episode and we were both screaming at the TV for Kenny to just SHUT UP. And his excuses were growing thin. It's good to have confidence, but to really believe that you can NEVER make food that is anything less than Spectacular? Give me a break. And his parting comment about the competion NOW being anyone's game since he is gone...? BLEH!

Oh One Owl, you've fallen for the old Rules theory. But here's the problem you nor I know what the rules are. Not knowing means being unable to say with any certainty if Alex or his team broke any rules. Frankly seeing how Alex cooks, it was probably the best move to limit his interaction with actual food.

Melissa, auffing Amanda would be expected if you're the kind of viewer who believes that personality plays a role in judging. It. Does. NOT. It's about food on the plate and that food being the best you can put on the plate at that moment. Kenny did not accomplish that. Is Kenny a better chef than Amanda? Oh yeah. Did he slack off in the mistaken belief that they had the win in the bag. Oh hell to the yes.

Your comment about limiting Alex's actual contact with food would have made me spit coffee on my laptop so it's good I wasn't drinking any at the time. LOL Excellent turn of phrase. snort

I was trying to figure out why Kenny, when people were pretty generally horrified (or so it seemed) by Amanda's dish. The only thing I could figure out was that he did two bad dishes to her one. And yeah if he was The Dude in Charge, then he was gonna hafta (literally) take one for the team.

My children find Amanda's personality delightful. I'm so proud.

I was taken by surprise that they PYKAG'd Kenny, and I do think he's one of the better chefs this season overall (which guarantees nothing, as we know). One of the puzzling things for me about this season is that the editing on the show sometimes doesn't give the viewer enough to go on to figure out why decisions are reached. I've felt like there's been less about the food and the judging, and more time spent on manufactured drama. Watching the extended judging clip on Bravo's website, the reasons behind Kenny's aufing make more sense. But if they're going to save the meaty judge's table conversations for the clips on their website instead of including a reasonable amount of substance about the judging in the show, then I say get rid of those darn web clips of the extended judging. Besides, as long as the deliberations take, there's surely more they could include both places.

We wouldn't be talking, commenting, raging if they did Eggy. Buzz baby, they love the buzz, which you have to admit has been severely lacking this season.

Yep, lots of "lack" this season. Sad to say, but I'm finally feeling like the new 90-minute version of Project Runway is helping my interest perk back up for a former beloved fave that I was about to give up for dead. Please, somebody, breathe some life back into Top Chef.
