I tried. I sat down two times and reviewed the Quickfire. Dry as dust. So here's the rundown.
They are still trying to breath life into the Purloined Pea Puree. Hopefully this will be the last we hear of it.
Marcus Samuelsson was the guest judge. So that means a Scandinavian food challenge, right? Because that's what Marcus was originally known for, especially at Restaurant Aquavit. No. So then it must be a Japanese food challenge because after Aquavit, he turned to Riingo, serving Japanese influenced American food. Negative. Or perhaps they decided to play off what Marcus served as a guest chef for the first White House State Dinner of Barack Obama's tenure and whip up some Indian food? Nope. Ethiopian food from the land of Marcus's birth.
Ethiopian proteins. Goat, tripe, beef tongue, lamb. No pork. Ethiopia is home to many Muslims, Jews and Orthodox Christians so no wat of pork. Spices, lots of spices and vegetables.
Who looks like they know what they are doing? Angelo, Kenny, and Ed all apparently have some experience with the cuisine. The rest of the chefs have not even sampled let alone cooked Ethiopian food. Seems like a slam dunk for the Big Boys, yes?
NO! The top three are Angelo, Sherry and Tiffany, one expert and two greenhorns. And the win goes to Angelo....right? NEIN! Tiffany pulls this one out with her Beef Goulash with Poached Egg, Currants, Pepper and Yogurt. Angelo feels the burn of losing to someone who had not a clue what Ethiopian cooking was all about. Ed, while not terribly upset about not being in the top three, revels in Angelo's loss to his gal pal, Tiffany while Kenny's frustration deepens with each challenge he does not win.
The only question I have left from this Quickfire is...
