Let's face it, maple makes most things better. For instance, take the lowly parsnip.
Not much to look at is it? A cross between a carrot and a turnip. The Romans considered them to be an aphrodisiac. Which is why Nigella Lawson has a Maple Roasted Parsnip recipe.
Some parsnips, some maple syrup, some time spent in the oven and Voila...
...Maple goodness.
One of our Thanksgiving traditions is Mystery Pie - every year I try something new and rather different. One of the spectacular failures, and still in first place, is parsnip pie.
ReplyDeleteI shoulda added maple syrup!
Now ya know. Thank Mapril.
ReplyDeleteTose kind of look like candied sweet potatoes. But I don't see any bacon. Served on the side I guess.
ReplyDeleteI really envy your picture taking ability.
Thanks Buzz, if anything you should envy my light.
ReplyDeleteThat's really beautiful - I was in fact wondering about your light, asamatteroffact!!!
ReplyDeleteI've never tasted a parsnip - do they taste like carrots?
No, taste more like a sweeter turnip.
ReplyDeleteAh. Don't believe I've ever had a turnip either...
ReplyDeleteHeavy heavy sigh.....
ReplyDeleteI see it's time to give you homework on the vegetable world.
LOL
ReplyDeleteI never thought of parsnips or turnips as veggies 101. Haha More like exotic creatures from far away northern climes. ha
MS and The Sweeties need a big garden so they can try out all the veggies.
ReplyDeleteLove that last picture. Such soft beautiful light.
I'm thinking it's going to take more than a big garden to convince the sweeties to even try some veggies. Perhaps pink and purple veggies.
ReplyDeleteTrue, Shamsters. And yet they love broccoli...
ReplyDeleteI would just like to report that while The Sweeties did not try their first parsnips today, they just finished eating their weight in broccoli. So the moral of the story is any post about veggies is good for my children. Ha.
ReplyDeleteGo Sweeties!
ReplyDeleteWe heart parsnips. Roasted with chunks of carrots, sweet potatoes & uh huh a drizzle or two of Mapril syrup. Saps runnin' here in Nova Scotia - there's a package loomin' ... just sayin' xoxo Missy D
ReplyDeleteThank goodness because I'm going to need it after the Eleven Days of Mapril.
